Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Tablet Computer

It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story film was released, establishing Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing viewers to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

In the teaser reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and assisting prize toys find good homes.

Surely, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the insignia pinned to her shirt.

Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.
